Mental Health Awareness Week 2019

Posted on 17th May 2019

If you don’t already know by now, this week was mental health awareness week. We take the mental health of our team here at The Maine Group very seriously and work hard to ensure we have a positive and supportive environment. Over the years we’ve come to realise that the only way to build and maintain this, is by having a strong culture and core values. “Everyone here is really encouraging, we look out for each other to make sure no one is struggling, checking to make sure we’re doing well. It’s a really supportive team” says Rose, an Associate Consultant at Maine-Tucker.

To improve our awareness as a company, we’ve recently updated our HR policies in this space and at the beginning of the year, we signed up for the amazing ‘Headspace’ app for the whole organisation! We wanted to encourage the team to take time for themselves and get some headspace back! From the feedback we’ve has, it seems to have made a real difference! Some of the team love the guided meditation and others are enjoying the sleep podcasts that help you drift off. Our Office Manager, Paige, had this to say:

“I’m really not on to meditate, I always saw it as a bit of a waste of time, but after a busy period at work I found that I was pretty wired in the evenings and wasn’t sleeping all that well. Meeta [our CEO] recommended the sleepcasts and they’ve really worked! I use them at least 3 times a week and have even found some other great ones online too.”

The team work hard to support each other when things get busy and are open about what getting to us.

It’s constant work, and there is always room to improve but it’s definitely worth it. A positive work environment is a happy one.
if you’re looking for a new role, it’s important to find the right culture for you.
If you’re building this in your own company, it’s important that you create an open dialogue to discuss any challenges and the impact of work on each and everyone’s mental health.
