Happy 1st Birthday Maine Charity

This week Maine Charity are celebrating their first birthday! Throughout the last 12 months we have had some huge successes at the Maine Group, and none more than the formation and incredible progress of our Charity division. We have some words from our Head of Maine Charity, the wonderful Faye Pooke, on why she chose to join The Maine Group and help us launch our specialist Charity Division, the journey so far, and what awaits Maine Charity in the future.


Choosing The Maine Group

Having worked in the sector for nearly 15 years, when I thought about joining someone new it was about finding a company that shared the same values as me, not someone that looked at recruitment as just a money making scheme or project; it’s all about the service. The Maine Group’s ethical approach to recruitment was refreshing and was a key factor in my becoming a member of the Maine family. It’s all about the package, about the thorough approach, and actually matching the right candidate with the right client, creating higher staff retention and reducing turnover, which I feel The Maine Group are really passionate about and achieve well.  

Recruitment agencies as a whole (sometimes fairly) have a bad reputation. I wanted to join an organisation that are working to change that perception through a strong induction, training and nurturing programme of new consultants that will result in a much more consultative service to our clients and candidates.

The Maine Group’s high retention rates – 90% for Permanent and 99.8% for Temps - made it clear that they work in partnership with both candidates and clients alike. The fact that we can boast some amazing statistics and have such a strong infrastructure in place, made it clear that this was a great platform and support network, to pull this through to our specialised Charity division. We’ve worked hard to bring these structures to the not for profit and charity world, ensuring we leave only positive footprints!

As an organisation we were already working with a range of not for profit organisations and having lots of success on both the temp and perm side, but this was mainly within business support. Bringing in the expertise and knowledge of the Maine Charity team has enabled us to service a much broader range of areas, covering the whole suite from Fundraising, Marketing and PR/Communications to Finance, HR and the complete Business Support range on a national basis.

When choosing to join the Maine team, it was the trust that was shown in their system and way of working that I appreciated and identified with. The whole of The Maine Group, not just Maine Charity, offers a 100% rebate for six weeks or 100% for 100 days if you are working with us exclusively. We believe in our method.

Our Journey

In our first year, we have gained some fantastic PSLs and are partnering with some of the leading charities and not for profits across the United Kingdom. We’ve been working hard to foster and maintain positive relationships with a truly consultative approach to our partnerships. We have not only grown our candidate and client base, but also grown our team and have on boarded charity recruitment specialists with a wealth of experience in the sector. As the fastest growing division in our sector, we’ve had some considerable successes; we have actively worked with 65 charities and not for profit organisations in the last year and a have experienced a whopping 1100% increase in temporary placements in the last 6 months!

Our Future

Looking to the future we have big ambitions - we want to grow! We’re always looking for new talent and for experienced recruiters in the sector to join our team and to be part of an ethical approach to recruitment and consultancy. We have huge volumes of candidates choosing to work with us and plenty of roles coming through; more and more Charities and Not for Profits are choosing to partner with Maine Charity.

Having worked at several different recruiters between us, we have seen the good the bad and the ugly; we are true consultants in recruitment trying to change how recruitment is perceived. We want to ensure that Maine Charity is the consultancy of choice and aspire to become the market leader.
