National Receptionist Day!

Posted on 10th May 2017

Its national Receptionists Day today and we would like to say a huge thank you to all our great receptionists out there!

Our very own Kate Stannard, Associate Director and Head of Business Operations, joined The Maine Group as a receptionist nearly seven years ago. We’ve even got a snippet of one of her blogs from 2011, which she wrote whilst in her reception role…

“My day on reception is pretty nonstop. We’ve had a great selection of candidates in recently, which has kept me busy along with the buzzing phones! There are lots of candidates and visitors to meet and greet, CVs to be updated, temp availability to be logged, candidate test results and documentation to file, references to obtain, and reports to record.”

From those days, Kate’s role has changed dramatically. She has worked hard to progress from Receptionist, to PA to the MD, to Business Assistant, to Business Manager, to her current role as Associate Director, Head of Business Operations, and she is still a top-notch EA to our CEO! We’re not quite sure how she does it!

Although her role has changed a lot from the early days, it’s clear that her time on the reception desk was an integral rung on her climbing the career ladder.

“Working on reception gave me some really valuable insights into how our company worked and the needs of the team. It gave me the opportunity to hone my people skills at the front of house and to refine my time management and team management. It was always busy and undeniably, great fun. It opened up some fantastic opportunities for me too! My reception role set me on my current career path and it could not have been more valuable.”

We really value our receptionists here at The Maine Group, as we know that they are an integral part of the team. Our current receptionist, Chloe, wrote a blog about her time at The Maine Group and what it’s like to be a receptionist in such a busy company – you can read this blog here.

Whether you are a career receptionist, or looking to work your way up the career ladder, your time on the reception desk is extremely valuable both to your experience and to the company as a whole. We couldn’t function without you!

As it’s National Receptionist Day we had a quick look at some interesting facts and statistics all about receptionists! Take a look at our infographic below.
