HR Volunteer - Fairtrade Foundation

HR VOLUNTEER for FAIRTRADE FOUNDATION

Fairtrade's HR team has an exciting and ambitious period ahead while we get close to the end of our 2016-20 strategy being implemented and completed and are looking for a volunteer with an interest in developing their experience, knowledge and skills within HR.

The Fairtrade Foundation is a passionate and ambitious development organisation committed to tackling poverty and injustice through trade. We are best known as the independent, not-for-profit body behind the FAIRTRADE Mark, a product label assuring consumers that their purchase helps disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries secure a better deal. The Fairtrade mark is the best known and most trusted ethical mark amongst UK consumers.

The Human Resources team consists of the Head of HR, HR Advisor, HR Assistant and a part-time Volunteering Development Manager. The successful delivery of the organisation’s strategy relies substantially on the contribution of our staff and volunteers, and it is the HR team’s responsibility to provide a professional and business-focused service to meet these needs. The HR team has an exciting and ambitious period ahead while we get close to the end of our 2016-20 strategy being implemented and completed and are looking for a volunteer with an interest in developing their experience, knowledge and skills within HR. The position will report directly to the HR Assistant with a dotted line to the HR Advisor and will also work alongside other members of the HR team on a variety of projects.

Commitment:

Ideally we would like to have an HR volunteer for two-three days per week for a minimum of three months, but this is negotiable depending on individual circumstances.This arrangement is not intended to be legally binding or to create a contract.

Tasks may include:

Supporting various HR projects such as improvements to training initiatives including the induction programme, recruitment; selection workshop, and overseas travel; security processes. Additional projects may include: reviewing our benefits and well-being package, update of our performance management guide, reviewing HRIS process flow charts and reports, reviewing feedback processes and policies as well as supporting at L&D workshops. Support may also be required with the implementation of a new volunteering database system and responsibility of implementing a values recognition scheme. These projects will include researching good practice, assessing current provision, delivering improvements and helping communicate the changes.
Becoming familiar with HR administration processes and HRIS (Cascade), through shadowing and getting exposure to policies and processes within all areas of HR. This role will do this through providing support to the HR team with recruitment, contract administration and general ad hoc admin in all areas of the HR Function.
Skills and experience required:

I.T. literate (Word, Excel and Outlook)
The ability to use initiative and work with minimal supervision
Excellent organisational skills
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Self-motivated and pro-active approach to work, with ability to use own initiative in a team setting
Ability to gather relevant and timely information
Attention to detail
Ability to manage a process and or a project
A desire to progress within the field of HR
Preferably customer facing experience or desire to develop interpersonal skills
HR Qualification or experience is preferable
Knowledge of and commitment to Fairtrade and development issues
What may you have learned / achieved by the end of this assignment?

Enhanced skills and knowledge of HR and HRIS, particularly HR Administration, Recruitment & Selection, Inductions, projects, L&D and volunteer administration
Project and time management skills
Experience of working in a busy hands on and customer facing HR team
Experience of payroll processes
Experience of HR processes and systems
Advanced office, administration and database experience
Experience of working in a fast paced, successful development organisation
An understanding of the international Fairtrade system and particularly the role of the UK movement
There is also the potential to enhance presentation skills
Reporting and Analysing data including training feedback & exit interviews
What are the hours?

Flexible, but normally 10.30am - 4.00pm Monday to Friday

Location

Unless otherwise stated, positions are based at the Fairtrade Foundation's offices in the Loom 5.7, 14 Gowers Walk, E1 8PY.

Do I get expenses?

We refund travel expenses (maximum £15 per day, preferably off peak) on production of a receipt or ticket and actual expenses incurred for lunch to the value of £5 on production of receipts, if volunteering for more than four hours a day or over the lunch period.
